Recently Star View TEAMMATES hosted its annual resource fair at the Watts Empowerment Center with Red-Eye in Los Angeles. Entertainment was provided by 93.5 KDAY-FM and a free carnival with rides and games; nearly 1,000 families and their children attended.
More than 100 service providers—such as Providence Health & Services, The Good Seed, MAMA’s Neighborhood Women’s Health Programs & Innovations, the Department of Mental Health, Baby to Baby, Amanda Foundation, and many more—were at the fair to provide community resource linkage to families. Mobile health screening providers from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, Watts HIV Testing, National Research Institute Liver Screening and Integrity College of Health were also onsite providing free dental exams and health testing and screening.
The Los Angeles Housing Authority hosted a backpack and book giveaway for the children in preparation for the schoolyear. Actor and comedian BJ Novak from The Office also attended the event and read his book, “The Book with No Pictures” to the children and handed out free copies.
